Gadwick's Castle - fight concepts

This concept was made during my internship at Faycrest Studios for their ARPG Solita. Gadwick is the ruler of the cold mountainous region of Solita's world. He lives in a gothic-style castle, and the player faces off with him in his throne room. Gadwick's main weapon is a whip, which can slash as well as hook the player. He is trained in the art of ice and lightning magic, which he uses to freeze the floor and summon great lightning strikes. He uses a handful of small bombs stored in his stylish coat. This room was used by Gadwick for council meetings and political events. The balcony-style chairs that sit high on the walls are for guests of the council, Gadwick sitting in the crossfire of their echoing voices. The owl statues are a symbol of Gadwick's kingdom, a representative of poise and wisdom. My favorite part of this arena is the towering stained glass windows, a staple of gothic architecture. I loved experimenting with how to represent the light shining through the glass and creating the epic atmosphere that this fight deserves. The design of this room took many iterations and tooling, the stairs especially had to have very specific placement and design to work efficiently with the shape and size of the room, while leaving space for the fight to take place.
